Money Management

Money Management Services represents the fastest growing segment of our business. On the radio and at the seminars, most questions ultimately involve stocks and how we manage money. We wear many different hats in the money management area, however most inquiries are about the choices a client has regarding stock investments. We handle stocks in primarily five different ways as described below:

A.  Managed Account Program/Consulting Solutions - In this area we act as a consultant. We start by having an in depth discussion with the client concerning goals, objectives, risk tolerance, etc. until we have a clear picture of what a client is trying to achieve and what steps are appropriate to help them achieve that particular goal. We then take this information and help the client select a money manager or managers from our universe of over 100 professional managers stretching all over the country. Track record, management style and the specific managers length of service are just a few of the criteria that are considered before the consulting process is complete. Once the manager or managers are chosen there are no commissions or transaction costs for the buying or selling of stocks. An annual fee is agreed upon between the client and RBC Dain Rauscher for the services provided. The fee is not to exceed 3% annually and is paid quarterly. Portfolio review is done on a month and quarterly basis to make sure the manager performance and management style continue to meet the goals of the client.  More Info »

B.  Portfolio Focus - This is a discretionary account for qualified investors interested in aggressive growth. Pat and Jim use a stock selection process that employs both fundamental and technical criteria. Fundamental data such as earnings growth, revenue growth and return on equity are used to help select stocks in industries that are leading the market. Technical factors such as volume and chart patterns then help decide at what points these stocks should be bought or sold. This type of account is fee based with no commission costs and has a $100,000 minimum.  More Info »

C.  Individual Brokerage Account - This is the traditional stock portfolio account where a transaction cost is applied to each trade. The client makes and/or the investment professional recommends makes investment choices for this type of account. Service is a key ingredient here as the client may need research from a number of different outlets to make the buy or sell decision. No discretion is used for this portfolio so the client always makes the final decision.  More Info »

D.  RBC Advisor - At RBC Dain Rauscher, we have a fee-based RBC Advisor. Today, with over 10,000 mutual funds available including load, no-load and back-end load it is very difficult to decide what funds are worthy of investment and then how long to hold them. In our RBC Advisor we start by helping the client develop an investment policy statement which serves as a road map to decide how to allocate the investment dollars. Then using that policy statement we screen for the right funds from over 140 fund families and 3000 funds available. Once the investments are made, we monitor them on a regular basis for performance and to make sure those particular funds continue to follow the objectives of the client. No buy or sell cost is applied at any time in our RBC Advisor, only an annual fee dependent on the SIZE of the account, not to exceed 1.50%. The minimum SIZE is $50,000.  More Info »

E.  Mutual Funds - For clients not interested in our RBC Advisor, we offer literally thousands of different mutual funds help to meet the needs of our clients. The method used to develop an investment strategy for the client is similar to the RBC Advisor. Once the objectives and strategy are set for the client, we screen the fund families and specific funds to determine the best choice for each client. Typically, appropriate diversification can be attained by selecting 5 to 9 separate funds for a portfolio.  More Info »
